INFINZ Board members 2009  

David McLean
Chief Executive
New Zealand Branch
Westpac Banking Corporation

David leads Westpac Institutional Bank, which services the large corporate and institutional market in NZ across a full range of banking products. Starting his career as a lawyer, with an LLB (Hons) from Victoria University, he has since had 20 years experience in the New Zealand capital markets. David is Chairman of the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand, and serves on the boards of the NZ US Council, the NZ Council for Infrastructure Development, and the NZ Institute for the Study of Competition and Regulation. 

David lives in Auckland with his wife Julienne and their two teenage daughters.

Mary-Jane Daly
Executive General Manager
State Insurance

As Executive General Manager (EGM), State Insurance, Mary-Jane is responsible for leading the business including the Personal and Commercial Sales teams, State Claims, and the Business Process Improvement team. She also has responsibility for leading IAG NZ’s Personal Lines Pricing and Underwriting, National Assessing & Loss Adjusting, and Debt Recovery teams.

Mary-Jane joined IAG New Zealand in October 2006 as Chief Financial Officer and was appointed to the EGM State Insurance role in April 2009. She has a strong background in financial services and has held a variety of roles in banking both in the UK and in New Zealand. Prior to joining IAG, she was Fonterra’s Group Treasurer and Risk Manager.

Mark Fennell

New Zealand Superannuation Fund

Mark has over 20 years experience in treasury and risk management. Prior to joining the NZ Super Fund, Mark spent 9 years with The Warehouse Group as Treasurer and Company Secretary. Previous roles include Treasurer of Forestry Corporation, Foreign Affairs and Railways Corporation. Mark is a CTP member of INFINZ and has been a member since 1993.

He holds an M.Soc.Sci from Waikato University and is a Chartered Accountant.

David Green
Managing Director
Institutional New Zealand, ANZ

David leads ANZ’s Institutional business in New Zealand, which manages Institutional client relationships and provides specialised markets, transactional and financing products and solutions to the bank’s customers. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the finance and banking sector in senior management, advisory, structuring, underwriting and markets roles.

David previously led the team responsible for ANZ’s Institutional clients in New Zealand and was a member of the leadership team in New Zealand and Institutional globally. He joined ANZ in 2005 from Deutsche Bank Australia, where he was responsible for leading acquisition financing, refinancing and leveraged financing assignments for the bank in Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to his membership of INFINZ, David is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (College of Chartered Accountants) and New Zealand Institute of Management.

Deepak K Gupta, BCA, MBA, FCFIP

Deepak joined the INFINZ Board in May 2002 as one of the founding directors of INFINZ. Deepak was a Committee member of the New Zealand Society of Investment Analysts, one of the two member bodies that merged to form INFINZ, from 1989 to 2002 and was Chairman for a period.

As Executive Director of Trustees Executors, Deepak is responsible for the strategic, operational and financial management of the Company.

Deepak is also director of NZX listed Tourism Holdings Limited, director of ASX listed Over Fifties Group and director of various private companies. He has previously held various senior management positions in financial services companies in New Zealand and directorships of a number of private companies in various industries. Deepak has an extensive background of nearly 25 years in institutional funds management and private equity investment.

Mahes Hettige

Bank of New Zealand

Mahes is responsible for balance sheet strength, funding and capital management of BNZ. Over 20 years experience in Corporate and Banking Treasury and risk management in senior management roles in New Zealand. Past career spans Global funding & capital, risk management for large State owned Enterprises (ECNZ and Housing NZ), NZ banks (Westpac and BNZ) and Local Government in NZ at Auckland City.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Commerce & Administration (BCA) with Honours, from Victoria University.
  • Member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.
  • Fellow Corporate Treasury Professional of INFINZ.

Paul Kelway
Treasurer
Air New Zealand Ltd

As Treasurer Paul is responsible for the Management of the financial risks of the Company from fuel, foreign exchange, interest rates and liquidity. He also buys the fuel. He has worked for Air New Zealand since 1991.

Paul has an MPhil in Economics and MSc in Mathematics from the University of Auckland. He worked in the NZ Government Treasury as an economist before shifting to the banking sector and becoming involved in markets.

Bruce McKay
Director
Esperance Capital Ltd

Bruce is also a director of Saffron Capital Ltd and is Chief Financial Officer of Viaduct Capital. Bruce also writes a weekly column on financial markets for the Dominion Post, The Press and Waikato Times.

Bruce has a wide range of experience in financial markets and has been an equity analyst, head of research, and undertaken numerous roles and projects in investment banking and corporate finance. He has worked in New Zealand, Australia and Germany.

Bruce has been on the Board of INFINZ since its inception in 2002 and has played an active role as a Chair of the Advocacy Committee and was formerly executive editor of the INFINZ journal.

Anthony Quirk
Executive Director
Milford Asset Management

Anthony has over 24 year’s experience in the investment industry. He joined Milford Asset Management as an Executive Director in 2007 after previously being Managing Director at Tyndall Investment Management from 2000 to 2007. Prior to this he was General Manager of ANZ Funds Management from 1993 to 2000.

Anthony is a Fellow of the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand and is a current board member of that organisation. He has previously been Chairman of the Asset Management Advisory Board of the New Zealand Exchange, member of the Financial Reporting Standards Board of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and Deputy Chairman of the New Zealand Society of Investment Analysts.

David is an accredited NZX Advisor, and is Chairman of the NZX Debt Advisory Board. David has over 25 years experience in the financial markets both domestically and offshore and now specialises in the origination, distribution and dealing in New Zealand debt products.

Maree Webster
Finance and Legal Consultant

Maree has worked in finance for listed companies, most recently as Commercial Director at Carter Holt Harvey and Group Chief Financial Officer at Tower Limited. Prior to that she practiced at Russell McVeagh, primarily as a Commercial Tax Lawyer. She holds an honours degree in Law.

Geoff Zame
Head of Institutional Research
Craigs Investment Partners

Geoff joined the Craigs Investment Partners Equities Research team in Auckland, as an analysts in July 2007, he was appointed Head of Institutional Research in April 2009.

Geoff’s current focus is on the telecommunications, transport and media sectors. Prior to joining Craigs, Geoff spent the previous six years with Telecom Corporation NZ, the majority of this time as Investor Relations Manager and latterly as Finance Manager for Telecom’s Business Retail division.

Geoff’s previous work experience included five years based in London as Finance Manager for Cater Allen (a wholesale moneybroker, subsidiary of Abbey National), and prior to that with Deloitte & Touche in Wellington, qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1997.

Geoff holds a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in accounting and economics) from the University of Otago and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.
