Chief Financial Officer

Permanent - Full Time
Tuam Street (TUA)
Environmental Services

The Canterbury region is like no other, and Environment Canterbury is proud to call it home. We work with papatipu rūnanga, stakeholders and the wider community to manage the use and quality of our natural resources, including water, land and air.

Working with the community and our partners, we're taking action together to shape a thriving and resilient Canterbury, now and for future generations. Toitū te marae o Tāne, toitū te marae o Tangaroa, toitū te iwi.

We seek a Chief Financial Officer to lead organisation-wide financial and risk management both strategically and operationally, and who can provide financial stewardship of the assets we are responsible for. We have ambitious goals for our role in environmental management, and we need to use our financial resources as effectively as possible to achieve our strategic outcomes.

Reporting to the Director, Finance and Corporate Services, this is an influential senior leadership role in an organisation that manages annual revenue of circa $250m. It has accountability for the provision of financial, commercial and risk related advice to executive leadership, the CEO and Council, to enable the business to make great decisions that benefit the region, both today and tomorrow.

We seek a CFO with the passion and capability to lead a diverse and experienced team, and who brings a clear customer-centric approach. Skills in collaboration and partnering are essential, together with an ability to actively manage business risk and provide astute advice in the exciting and changing local government context.

We are looking for a strategic leader that:

  • can provide operational financial and commercial advice, recommendations and solutions
  • has proven experience leading and managing diverse, agile and dedicated teams
  • builds capability through collaboration within the organisation and with stakeholders and partners
  • has strong interpersonal skills as well as approachability, a problem-solving mind set, an ability to negotiate and influence interactions, and who operates with the highest levels of integrity and trust
