Portfolio Manager, Portfolio Investments

The Portfolio Investments team is primarily responsible for the origination and management of the Guardians’ Tactical Credit Opportunities Mandate and other active mandates as agreed by the Investment Committee.

Portfolio Investments works closely with Legal, Investment Operations, Finance and the broader Portfolio Completion business unit.

Portfolio Managers (PM) play a critical role in the Portfolio Investments team, with responsibility for Trading, taking and managing structured risk positions in financial markets, and (where applicable) the origination and structuring of such investments operated under Portfolio Investments’ active return strategies. As a PM you will achieve this by efficiently analysing, assessing and executing new and existing investment opportunities. 

About the position

In this role you will contribute to the research, origination and management of the active mandates operated by the Portfolio Investments team, including executing direct investment  opportunities. This is done through maintaining  a collegial, open and honest approach, that encourages robust discussion, and a balanced view in decision making.

You will do this by:

  • Periodically report on mandates managed by Portfolio Investments.
  • Monitor performance of implemented strategies and their related investments.
  • Work closely with Portfolio Completion to maintain appropriate levels of liquidity at all times.
  • Ensure the active mandates are operated within internal investments mandates and the Guardians’ relevant policies.
  • Implement risk management strategies to optimise returns without undue risk.
  • Taking risk in, and the risk management of, debt capital markets and private credit positions.
  • Maintain and leverage contact with counterparties to generate trade ideas.
  • Provide input into the annual review of relevant counterparties.
  • Provide input and trade execution support to the Portfolio Completion team.

You will be able to demonstrate a strong analytical aptitude, and with the ability to guide analysts in their work, and an appreciation for capital markets and structured finance, with good exposure to rates, currencies and traded markets. This could include:

  • Experience in managing credit and rates portfolios, considering and taking both structured and unstructured risk positions and exercising discretionary trading authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to summarise analysis in a concise and meaningful way, with solid technical dealing skills and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and operate with wide autonomy to see execution of transactions through from end to end. 
  • Demonstrated problem solving, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collegial, constructive approach, including the ability to foster both internal and external relationships.
