A top five global banking corporation is looking for a self-motivated, proactive individual to lead the risk management and compliance teams in New Zealand. This role would suit an experienced and proven leader in risk management to support a leading commercial bank with their strategy and business plan in New Zealand.

One of the most powerful and valuable banking corporations globally who run a wholesale and retail banking business in New Zealand. Operations include corporate and commercial loans, trade finance and FX, treasury facilities and financial services for cross border transactions.

The role will give incumbent ownership of all the Risk and Compliance functions across New Zealand. This remit will include responsibility for all credit market and operational risks and will also factor in liquidity to the range of responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a robust risk management framework to support the Bank’s strategy and business plan in NZ within the scope set by the Group’s risk management framework, which includes designing and implementing risk management policies and procedures that are consistent with the Group’s policies and also meet local regulatory requirements;
  • The CRO is responsible for oversight and management of all kinds of risks (including credit risk, market risk, operational risk, liquidity risk)
  • Advise the Board of the Bank on risk management related issues;
  • Assist management to liaise with Regulators.
Key Requirements
  • Experienced in the banking industry, strong in management of credit risks and also has a deep understanding of market, operational and liquidity risks
  • Deep understanding of the prevailing regulatory compliance requirement in New Zealand
  • Good understanding on recent regulatory trends towards banking industry, able to quickly review and update current policies to be in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Hands-on spirit needed as the team is small at the current stage
  • Strong ability to work efficiently in a multi-cultural setting and adaptable to the dynamics in a relatively new company where multi-tasking is required from time to time
  • Very experienced in communicating with regulators, capable of handling regular reports to and special request from regulators, implementing regulatory requirements from time to time and provide timely feedback, and discussing complex issues with regulators and formulating concrete action plan
  • Strong ability to set goals, prioritise workload, to motivate and guide staff to complete tasks required and to report to senior management team and the Board.
