The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to raise living standards for New Zealanders.

New Zealand Debt Management is one of the functions of the Capital Markets Directorate at the Treasury. We oversee the Government's borrowing requirements and associated activities, with a goal of managing debt in a way that minimises costs over the long-term, while keeping risk at an appropriate level. We have an opportunity for an Analyst to work with the Head of Funding Strategy and Engagement on the following:

  • Developing, monitoring and communicating the debt funding strategy
  • Supporting the sovereign credit rating through engagement with key credit rating agencies
  • Developing and executing the investor engagement strategy

This role will also involve helping to ensure the debt funding strategy balances the needs of the Crown and investors, while promoting a well-functioning market. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in advice and communications regarding major portfolio transactions and research into longer-term issues that affect sovereign debt markets.

About You

You'll be a curious, motivated, Analyst who can think strategically while also having an eye for detail. You'll also bring:

  • A tertiary degree in economics, finance, mathematics or similar
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • High standards of professional conduct and integrity, including ethical standards relevant to financial markets
  • Professional financial markets experience (preferably)
