Work alongside the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Bougainville to facilitate sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Bougainville. The DED has a range of functions, and has developed a substantive corporate plan for 2018-2020. It will work toward improving the investment climate, facilitate local and inward investment, and support the establishment of business associations in Bougainville.

This assignment will require you to work alongside the DED to ensure that the business associations within Buka have improved institutional capacity and skills in conducting public and private dialogues, and are retaining sustainable partnerships with other organisations. You will be involved in drafting and finalising the three-year strategic plan, as well as budget and annual work plan. You will then also be involved in drafting and finalising process and procedure maps and systems for the three most implemented processes.

As the ideal candidate for this role, you are able to provide mentoring, coaching, training and support. More specifically, you will be involved in mentoring associations in the marketing of their services.

On this assignment, you will engage in supporting business associations in Bougainville to identify and understand key issues that they face. You will then assist them in conducting research into these issues and developing an advocacy position. Ideally, you are also able to support them and enable them to engage in dialogue and follow up on agreements reached with government. You will also support them in forming partnerships with other business associations. This will involve analysing and identifying the appropriate partners and dealing with any barriers and complications.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in improving the various business associations' fundamental business know-how.

We are recruiting for two Business Association Advisers - one based in Buka and the other in Arawa.

Experience required for this assignment:

  • Qualification in a relevant discipline such as business studies/administration, economics or institutional development
  • Experience providing business know-how training and/or running a business
  • Experience providing organisational/institutional strengthening
  • Experience supporting/working with business and/or the private sector groups
  • Excellent advocacy, stakeholder engagement and stakeholder mapping skills
