Compliance Risk Manager, Regulatory and Advisory

It's an exciting time as the Institutional and Business Banking (IBB) Risk, Compliance and Conduct team is growing, creating an opportunity to join us in a new role - Compliance Risk Manager, Regulatory and Advisory.

How will I help?

You'll work within the wider Risk, Compliance & Conduct team and will reporting directly to the Senior Manager Compliance & Financial Crime.You'll work alongside your immediate team and Line 2 colleagues to develop and maintain IBB's compliance risk framework and strategies including all the day to day requirements set by Westpac New Zealand Limited's (WNZL) Compliance Frameworks and Policies.

You'll be known as a team player and will bring your regulatory and compliance advisory expertise, either gained in private practice or in a compliance role in a bank.You'll be familiar with the current banking regulatory environment, upcoming regulatory change, and ideally will have experience in both local and Australian regulatory requirements (including prudential requirements).You'll work with the team and Line 2 to proactively identify and front-foot potential impacts of regulatory change, you'll actively identify areas for improvement in the management of governance activities managed by Line 1 and will work to make those improvements.

In particular you will take ownership and actively contribute to the design, implementation and on-going improvement and monitoring of compliance policies and procedures across the Division whilst provisioning frontline compliance risk management including best practice compliance advice.

You will provide subject matter expertise on legislative requirements whilst being responsible for ensuring compliance and operational risk procedures are effective and efficient in their implementation. The development and maintenance of strong, effective and collaborative relationships with the wider team, business stakeholders, Line 2, senior management of IBB and wider Westpac compliance teams, as well as with other key internal stakeholders.

  • You'll be known for your expertise and in being able to effectively apply such expertise in a commercial context to get great results
  • You'll be a great team player who effectively manages relationships and promotes the great 'brand' of the team within the wider business
  • Experience either in banking & finance in a law firm or in a compliance role in a bank
  • You'll be known as someone who can be relied upon to execute on actions
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. law, commerce)
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen and risk awareness
  • A great attitude combined with desire to exceed expectations
  • A continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to act independently within agreed framework
  • Knowledge of risk & compliance frameworks, systems and banking lending practices.
