Head of Sustainability


Westpac New Zealand has an ambitious 2025 sustainability strategy. We use our strength as large corporate to drive solutions to challenges like climate change and inequality through innovative products like our Westpac Warm Up Loan, delivering financial wellbeing workshops, our comprehensive Sustainable Investment policy, or through facilitating sustainable finance. 

Our Head of Sustainability is integral to Westpac, reporting directly to our General Manager of Linc, Strategy & Sustainability you will lead a dedicated team and provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise to the Executive team on a range of sustainability issues. 

This senior position delivers impact, setting the standard of world-class sustainable business. Specific responsibilities include:   
 

  • Working across the business to deliver our sustainability strategy.
  • Driving best practice ESG reporting and managing internal and external sustainability governance, including the Sustainability Advisory Panel.
  • Representing Westpac at relevant external Sustainability and Climate Change groups (Sustainable Business Council / Climate Leaders’ Coalition, Aotearoa Circle) and events.
  • Responding to relevant government consultations.
  • Keeping across international and national ESG trends to help inform strategy.

 

What do I need? 
 

We are seeking a strategic senior leader with specialist expertise in corporate sustainability, ideally in a large complex organisation.  
 

You will bring: 

  • Experience in corporate sustainability leadership.
  • An understanding of environmental and social issues and reporting methodologies.
  • Knowledge of sustainability principles, practices and trends.
  • Proven ability to deliver results through collaboration and influence including up to senior leadership and Board levels.
  • Impressive presentation and communication skills, including the ability to work confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Energy, passion, resilience, and the ability to work fast and meet deadlines.
  • Open to working in a diverse and inclusive organisation with a commitment to Te Ao Māori.
