How you'll make an impact...

At Xero, we believe that diversity and inclusion (D&I) enables our business to better understand and serve customers, attract and develop top talent and innovate successfully. This is an exciting opportunity to join the People Experience (PX) team at Xero to lead our global 'centre of excellence' for D&I. We've come a long way on our D&I journey since this role was first established in 2017 and we're looking for our next D&I leader to help us keep building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive Xero.

You will spearhead the ongoing successful implementation of our diversity and inclusion (D&I) strategy. You'll work closely with PX colleagues and leaders across our global business to embed a leader-owned approach to D&I and integrate D&I throughout all aspects of our organisation. This role will take a front seat in terms of metric-driven diversity and inclusion initiatives across Xero globally.

What you'll do...

  • Be responsible for the delivery and continued evolution of Xero's D&I strategy and ensuring alignment with Xero's business strategy and outcomes
  • Advise our leadership team and Board on setting measurable objectives and (targets) for diversity that are appropriate in the context of a New Zealand-headquartered, ASX-listed company with customers and employees located around the globe
  • Act as a trusted adviser to the senior leaders of our business and support the development of functional and regional D&I plans that map to our measurable objectives for diversity, tailored to address the specific representation and inclusion challenges of our different business units and regions, with the long-term goal of ensuring we reflect the communities in which we operate
  • As part of the Organisational Development leadership team, be the subject matter expert on D&I and ensure all people practices at Xero are considered through the lens of inclusion
  • Manage a dashboard of metrics to monitor progress against our measurable objectives (targets) for diversity and to demonstrate the impact of initiatives that map to those objectives
  • In partnership with the Social & Environmental Impact (SEI) team, contribute to the development and delivery of Xero's ESG strategy and ensure that D&I is aligned and connected to Xero's social impact programs
  • In partnership with the Learning Experience team, design and deliver D&I learning and development programs across Xero globally and/or partner with specialist providers
  • Proactively keep key stakeholders updated and make recommendations to design and launch programs to meet business goals
  • Research, write and prepare D&I papers and communications both internally and externally including board papers, articles, reports, e-learning, social content, policies and workshop materials
  • Provide data driven research and industry benchmarking that will help Xero deliver 'bestpractice' D&I strategies
  • Be a trusted advisor to all levels/areas of the business in terms of D&I whilst building awareness and capability so that D&I is owned by all Xeros

What you'll bring...

The successful candidate will have experience leading a D&I function in a listed organisation. Ideally this would be in a high-growth tech company and/or a large complex global organisation. This experience will be underpinned with a strong track record of designing and delivering D&I strategies and programs that support measurable objectives (targets) for diversity.

With a reputation as a thought leader in the field you will possess a deep knowledge of best practices in D&I and be highly conscious of all aspects of diversity issues with a keen awareness of social power dynamics and ways to shift systemic inequities. Your ability to influence and build relationships at all levels to drive organisational change will be achieved through your passion for helping people fulfill their potential and your skilfulness in facilitating meaningful and difficult conversations.

You will be commercial in your orientation with a data driven mindset and a demonstrated ability to leverage data and metrics to ensure the effective implementation and measurement of D&I programs.
