Position Objectives

The key aim of this role is to support Booster’s direct investments (primarily private equity, direct property investments) by providing high quality financial, industry and market analysis of existing and potential investments. The role broadly encompasses:

  • Acting as the day-to-day interface between: The direct investment team and internal Booster support functions (unit pricing, fund accounting, compliance, internal audit and valuation reviews); and Booster and its direct investee entities
  • Maintaining and developing analytical tools and processes to guide the decision-making process for direct investments, including the application of corporate finance and portfolio management principles.
  • Monitoring, analysis and reporting of asset and portfolio performance outcomes.
  • Maintaining and updating a rolling portfolio/investee valuation and returns analysis models.
  • Support the development of asset valuation recommendations through interpretation and analysis of asset-level financial performance, valuation models and market factors.
  • Preparation of supporting papers for investment and valuation decisions to be made on direct investments.
  • Supporting the deal execution through transaction support duties.
  • Secretariat role for internal meetings (convenor, diary management, generate and compile advance papers, minutes, action items follow up).
  • Assisting with NZX continuous disclosure.
  • Assisting with fund compliance activity, including SIPO, PDS, OMI & charter reviews.
  • Leading engagement with external stakeholders such as auditors and valuers on direct investment matters.

Key Responsibilities

To achieve the broad objectives, the candidate will perform the following tasks and any others that could be required from time to time. The list is not exhaustive, or in any particular order of importance, and may change as the business conditions evolve either internally within the company or externally in the industry.

  • Company research – review and record key elements of current and prospective investees including shareholders, directors and organisation structure as well as competitors and other sector specific factors.
  • Financial analysis – review investee entity management and financial accounts, produce financial models of the business, all in accordance with Booster’s direct investment philosophy.
  • Valuation models – support the development of final valuation recommendations including the preparation of papers to support a recommendation.
  • Transaction support - supporting the direct investment team with financial and data compilation as part of investment decisions for both new and existing direct investments.
  • Property research – review and record key elements of current and prospective property investments including sector specific, geographic and environmental considerations.
  • Property Management – regular monitoring of the directly owned properties owned, including compliance with government and legal requirements, undertaking actions required by leases or other legal agreements in places, financial and operational support functions of properties where appropriate, and other activities as required.
  • Portfolio monitoring – undertake daily monitoring of investments in accordance with approved targets; ensure research models, monitors, model portfolios and outputs are maintained efficiently at a high level; contribute to portfolio value and returns models and regular reporting.
  • Market, economic, tax and legislative research – ongoing monitoring for input as required.
  • Liaison and support between internal teams – acting as a key interface point between the direct investments team and other teams within Booster as appropriate whilst also providing support for those teams on direct investment related matters. This includes finance, compliance and other as appropriate.
  • Engagement with External Stakeholders – acting as key contact point for engagement with auditors and valuers in relation to the directly held investments and properties.
  • Process improvements – ongoing considerations for improvements within the direct investment processes, including streamlining of existing processes and implementation of AI where appropriate.
  • Secretarial duties – Supporting meetings of investment and valuation committees which oversee the direct investments, including organisation of meetings, preparation of papers and recording of minutes.
