Ko wai mātou | About us

At Te Mata Hiko (Contact Energy), we believe home is the most important place in the world. It's all part of our vision to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. We're a power, mobile, and broadband company, but we're so much more than that. We are transforming the ways we mahi, and how Aotearoa is powered, leading the charge on renewable energy and digitising customer journeys in ways not yet seen here. A team of 1000+ from all walks of life who love what we do, look out for each other, and learn from one another every day, we’re stoked to be guided by our tikanga: we touch lives to make life better.

Contact’s strategy is to be a leader in the decarbonisation of Aotearoa New Zealand and to play our part in the electrification transition. We need your energy to help decarbonise Aotearoa and safeguard the planet for future generations. Our Graduate Development Programme is committed to providing a great foundation where you’ll be trained, supported, and mentored along with providing exciting challenges for you to reach your full potential. You will work with passionate members of the Contact Energy team who are excited to share their knowledge of the energy industry with you, we can guarantee no two days will be the same!

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

The Graduate Development Programme commences in February 2027 and is an 18-month rotational programme. At the conclusion of the programme, you will transition into a permanent role within the business. We can teach you the skills you need to succeed, what’s important for us is diversity of thought, so it is important to just be yourself! So, if these behaviours and values align with yours then perhaps, we are the company for you.

As a Legal Graduate you’ll work on real legal tasks from day one! Such as:

  • Conducting legal research and preparing advice on a wide variety of topics
  • Drafting and reviewing documents such as internal memos, letters, agreements and contract summaries
  • Supporting Contact’s retail campaigns — reviewing marketing propositions and disclaimers for compliance with the Fair Trading Act
  • Observing and supporting legal work behind major infrastructure projects for Contact’s new wind, solar, and geothermal developments
