Te Tūranga | The role
Join us as an Adviser in our Investment Management team, where you’ll support how the FMA regulates and supervises Aotearoa’s managed investment sector. This includes KiwiSaver and non-KiwiSaver funds, discretionary investment management services, derivative issuers, restricted schemes and other investment products.
This is a varied role where you’ll work across both planned supervision and reactive matters, helping identify emerging risks, assess conduct and compliance issues, and contribute to proportionate, evidence-based regulatory responses.
You’ll have the opportunity to engage with market participants and other stakeholders, building strong, professional relationships while supporting positive regulatory outcomes. You’ll also work closely with colleagues across the FMA to ensure consistent and joined-up approaches.
Your mahi will include but is not limited to:
- Supporting monitoring and supervision across the investment management sector.
- Assessing regulatory and conduct issues, contributing to sound, evidence-based conclusions.
- Assisting with reactive matters, including breaches and emerging risks.
- Preparing clear, practical advice, correspondence and decision material.
- Supporting licensing activities (applications, changes, regulatory returns).
- Building sector knowledge, including regulatory and market developments.
- Contributing to improved investor outcomes through better product design and disclosure.
He kōrero mōu | About you
We are interested in hearing from applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, whether this is financial services, investment management, accounting, analysis, or the public sector. Experience within a regulatory environment is highly advantageous.
You might have a degree in finance, accounting, economics, law or a related field, or have built strong analytical capability through hands-on experience. You’re comfortable working with information, identifying risks, and forming practical, evidence-based views.
You’re collaborative, proactive and enjoy working with others. With a naturally engaging style, you’re confident building relationships and interacting with a range of stakeholders.
You’ll also bring:

- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality.
- A curious, adaptable mindset and willingness to learn.
- An interest in the investment management sector and regulatory environment.
