Lead the way.
A great place to work. With great work to do.
Ours is a meaningful and impactful role, as a kaitiaki (caretakers) of the financial services market in Aotearoa. We oversee a market that does right by everyone, ensuring better outcomes for all New Zealanders. Our role as a kaitiaki is brought to life by our values; Look to the Horizon, Help the Team Work, Make the Calls and Open Hearts, Open Minds.
Te Tūranga | The Role
This is a newly-created role for either a Principal or Senior Analyst, Conduct Risk to bolster our ability to understand and identify conduct risks within Aotearoa’s financial markets. This role will play a central part in shaping how the FMA identifies, interprets, and responds to the risks that matter most for consumers and investors.
You will contribute to the next phase of our Business Model Assessment work programme - a key strategic initiative endorsed by our executive leadership team. Your work will help deepen our understanding of how conduct risks manifest within the business models of regulated firms, and where this can result in consumer harm.
Depending on your experience and level, you will operate with varying degrees of scope, influence, and leadership:
At a Principal Analyst level, you will:
- Provide intellectual and thought leadership on conduct risk and developing our approach to business model analysis across the FMA.
- Lead complex, high‑impact analytical work that shapes regulatory strategy and supervisory approaches.
- Influence senior stakeholders across the organisation and externally.
- Drive the development of frameworks, tools and methodologies that uplift organisational capability.
- Mentor and guide others, helping build capability in conduct risk analysis across teams.
At a Senior Analyst level, you will:
- Lead or contribute to analytical work assessing business models, sectors, and products.
- Translate analytical insights into clear, practical advice to support supervision and regulatory decision‑making.
- Support the development of tools, techniques and approaches to identify and assess conduct risk.
- Collaborate with teams across the FMA, including supervision, economics, enforcement and audit, to bring together insights.
- Contribute to building organisational understanding of conduct risk and business model dynamics.
Across both levels, your work will help ensure that insights are targeted, impactful, and applied to shape regulatory activity, contributing to improved outcomes for consumers and investors.
This is a permanent opportunity, however we are open to considering a secondment arrangement if you're currently working in the public sector.
