About us

Heuser|Whittington is an independent economics and public policy consultancy in central Wellington. We advise government agencies, regional and local councils, regulated firms, and international development organisations on economics, finance, tax, regulatory and strategic questions. The firm was founded by Phil Whittington, former Chief Economist at Inland Revenue, and Andreas Heuser, previously Managing Director for a leading global economics consulting firm. Between them they have decades of experience advising governments, regulated firms, investors and banks across New Zealand and Asia-Pacific.

The role

Due to increasing workload, we want an analyst to support delivery of projects. You will work directly with both partners and other team members and get real responsibility and proper mentoring. The hours are flexible, and we can agree an arrangement that fits around your existing commitments (eg, study).

What you'd work on

The mix changes with whatever's on our desks, but you can expect to:

  • build and check economic and fiscal models in Excel
  • help with cost-benefit and regulatory analysis
  • track down data and evidence and make sense of it
  • support drafting of reports and presentations
What we're looking for
  • studying towards honours degree or a master's degree in finance, economics, law or related disciplines, or about to finish
  • good with data and confident in Excel
  • writes clearly and thinks carefully
  • curious, reliable, and not afraid to ask questions
What you'd get

You'd see how public policy economics and finance is actually used on real decisions, with senior experts you can learn from with a genuine variety of problems to work on. The pay is competitive, and the hours can work around any commitments you have.
