Credit Analyst

This is a great opportunity to join the New Zealand Local Government Funding Agency (LGFA) in a key analytical role encompassing credit risk assessment, borrower monitoring, and sector data insights across councils, councils controlled organisations (CCOs), and water CCOs.

We are seeking a motivated Credit Analyst to join LGFA and support high-quality credit analysis, borrower monitoring, and sector data insights across New Zealand’s local government and water sectors. LGFA is a small and highly cohesive team who have gone from strength to strength, as such the successful candidate will be a candidate who is capable of both working autonomously and as part of a close team.

We are ideally looking for an individual who has a genuine interest in infrastructure, has strong analytical skills and strong IT skills. Coding skills would be an advantage as would an interest in programmes like Power BI, and the ability to read between the lines and possess a critical mind will also be highly regarded. The role is a mixture of both financial and non-financial data analysis, so we are looking for an all-rounder.

What you will do
Located in the Auckland office you will:
  • Work alongside the Relationship and Credit Manager Water to collect, analyse, and interpret water sector data.
  • Work alongside the Senior Manager Credit and Client Relationships to collect and analyse council and CCO data.
  • Support other areas of LGFA with data collection and analysis, including greenhouse gas emissions data in collaboration with the LGFA sustainability team.
  • Integrate sector financial and non-financial data into LGFA’s database.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to maintain data accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist with the monitoring of each borrower’s creditworthiness.
  • Contribute to reporting for senior management, the LGFA Board, shareholders, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the development and maintenance of CCO and council databases.
Who we are looking for

You will be proactive, adaptable, and comfortable balancing day-to-day analytical tasks with broader project-based work. You will bring strong quantitative, analytical, and report writing capability, along with the ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative team environment.

Key skills and experience
  • A degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong financial analytical skills and confidence working with quantitative information.
  • Advanced Excel capability, including financial modelling experience.
  •  Experience with Power BI would be advantageous.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workflows and priorities.
  •  A detail-oriented mindset, combined with the ability to understand the broader strategic context.
  • An interest in local government, infrastructure, water sector reform, credit risk, or public-sector finance.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, accurate reporting for a range of audiences.
