Senior Solicitor / Senior Associate - Financial Services
About the job
If you are looking to work in a fast growing and innovative area of law, joining our market leading Financial Services team may be the right move for you. We are currently looking for a talented and driven intermediate to senior level lawyer to join our busy Auckland practice.
In this role you'll work with a great list of tier 1 financial institutions, leading boutiques and new entrant market disruptors from New Zealand and overseas, advising on, but not limited to, investment funds (KiwiSaver, retail funds and private equity/venture capital), FinTech, and financial services regulations.
About the team
Our Auckland Financial Services team is ranked Band 1 by both Chambers (in both Financial Services and Fintech) and Legal 500 (Investment Funds), led by Lloyd Kavanagh, Jeremy Muir and Claire Brabant, whose services are well sought after by those in the financial services industry. This is a busy practice filled with a wide-ranging body of work that are challenging, interesting and significant.
We break new ground regularly, from cutting edge and traditional products for banks, fund managers and financial advisers, to virtual asset service providers, to cryptocurrency and digital assets infrastructure. We are also regularly dealing with regulators such as the FMA, RBNZ, DIA, MBIE and MoJ, on behalf of our clients.
About you
We're on the search for a Senior Solicitor or a Senior Associate as our practice grows and gets even busier in 2026 and beyond. As the ideal candidate, you will have 5+ years' PQE in financial services practice from another top tier law firm or financial institution.
Along with a commercial approach, you will have strong academics, and technical skills, together with excellent communication skills that enable you to develop strong relationships both internally and externally.
You should also enjoy mentoring junior members of staff and be demonstrating leadership qualities, as well as enjoy participating in business development activities.
Applicants may also be considered with experience in a smaller practice with good skills and a strong ambition to step up a level. We are also open to people wanting to make a step change in their career from markets, corporate or litigation to enter this exciting field. For the right applicant, we may also consider slightly junior/senior level individuals.
