Paul Adams

Since embarking upon his technology commercialisation career in the late 1990s, Paul has worked with some of the world’s leading technology companies. He is renowned for his extensive understanding of intellectual property strategy as well as being a keen advocate for the concept that intangible assets are fundamental to a corporate performance.

Paul’s career began with practicing law before moving to Silicon Valley, where he co-founded a start-up and raised venture and development capital for New Zealand and United States ventures. Upon his return to New Zealand Paul was invited to develop and manage The Icehouse Incubator, the University of Auckland’s technology incubator. The Icehouse incubator has been named by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 10 technology incubators in the world and was the only incubator selected outside the United States.

From here Paul went on to serve as Intellectual Property Manager for Brunswick New Technologies Inc. As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of GPS technology and consumer electronics devices, Brunswick New Technologies’ revenues exceeded US$500 million. During this time Paul was responsible for a multi–million dollar intellectual property portfolio and budget and he managed the intellectual property outputs of more than 500 engineers and scientists.

Paul was appointed by the New Zealand Cabinet to the Advisory Board of Callaghan Innovation. He also sits on the advisory board of the McDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. Paul is a Director of Lewis Holdings Ltd – a NZ$350M investment vehicle, with approximately one third of its capital allocated to high growth technology investment.

Paul has been a member of the Intellectual Asset Management’s (IAM) 300 ( annual listing of the top 300 individuals identified as offering operating companies and other intellectual property owners world-class advice on maximising the value of their intellectual property) for the last three years.
