Juliet Tainui-Hernandez (Ngāi Tahu, Te Whakatōhea) has 25 years’ experience across varied executive leadership and governance roles working internationally and in NZ. She has worked in professional services, as a law firm partner, central banker, executive leader, general manager and transformation leader.  

Juliet began her career working for Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu over the settlement negotiations with the Crown. She qualified as a Solicitor in NZ in 1999, Australia (NSW) in 2001, and England and Wales in 2007.  Juliet returned home in 2020 to take up a directorship on the board of Ngai Tahu Holdings and an executive role as Assistant Governor at the Reserve Bank of NZ. She’s now a full-time director who sits on the board of ASB Bank and Whai Rawa Fund Ltd and provides governance and advisory services to a range of corporates, trusts and her home rūnanga, Ōnuku.
